Very often, poor running can be attributed to bad choke gaskets. The gaskets have a tendency to get sucked in at the rounded tip. This is often visible even without removing or disassembling the carburetor. Often when the gasket has failed, you can look at the inner side of the carburetor and see a space beneath the choke housing. When this happens, unmetered and unfiltered air enters the carburetor and poor starting and a poor idle are the symptoms.
